I’m thinking about doing it. The one in Charlotte is in October.
39 miles in 2 days, to raise money for breast cancer.
There are many, many reasons to do it.
To raise money for breast cancer. To raise awareness. To be a part of something amazing. A great way to meet people. An awesome motivation to exercise, train, increase endurance, lose weight. To prove to myself that I can do it. To prove to everyone that I can do it!
Why not?
There is other stuff brewing in my life…will I have time to do what needs to be done? Will I have focus and energy? Can I handle it physically? Emotionally?
The fundraising part of it doesn’t scare me. And I know the people around me would support me.
There is a meeting tomorrow.
Thoughts??
Update:
I’m DOING IT!!!! First training walk tomorrow.
Hell yes I rock!

Can you simply bow out at any time if it gets to be more of a burden than a pleasure? Or will you apply a harsh standard to yourself and feel like a failure if you end up having to do that? Are you asking yourself this because once you decide, you know you will have a “do or die” feeling about it?
I recently read something about the two basic types of human motivation. One is moving toward things that attract you, things that you desire; the other is moving away from things you fear or otherwise want to avoid. Some people stick to one type or the other as a consistent theme throughout their lives. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that changing directions when we need to is a healthy, balanced thing to do, and that it does not represent a failure.
My mantra lately has been, “Take care of yourself first, or you won’t be effective at taking care of the others you really want to help and take care of in life.” I have to keep it as a mantra of sorts simply because my brain is apparently very, VERY gristly in that department.
Maybe my comment here is more applicable to me than to you. But still, I’ll leave it here, if for no other reason than reading it again (and perhaps again) when I check for follow-ups.

Brian-
I think you’re right!
Gentiana-
Excellent points. I do have to give myself some breathing room, and not see every change in direction as a failure.
I think what attracts me about this is that it is a THING to work towards, and it will (hopefully) help me to develop some skills in pacing, and follow through, and long-term healthy things.
And of course, if you wanna talk about it, I’m here!!
